You can’t just buy a new computer, laptop, smartphone or other gadget, and leave it on the floor when you’re travelling.
But if you need to pack up all your essentials when you go away, you’ll want to think carefully about where you’ll store them.
This article will explain what you need, when you need it and when you shouldn’t.
The big picture How much should you pack?
The UK government’s travel advice advises you to pack at least 10 per cent of your personal belongings in your luggage and that’s not always easy to get right.
But there are plenty of tools that can help you make sure you have the right amount.
Find out how to pack a laptop, for example, how much to pack around the house and how to find the right travel bag for you.
You should pack a good amount of essential items, such as toiletries, toilet paper, a pair of socks and shoes, as well as a basic travel bag to keep your wallet and mobile phone, and a spare charger or battery.
Some items, like a toilet paper roll or toilet paper can be stored in a single pack that is only 10 per.
These items should be easy to find.
And if you have to go a long way, like in a plane, you should pack more items for when you arrive home.
The UK Government advises that you should have a small notebook, notebook paper, phone charger and extra batteries in your bag.
So the following list gives some ideas of what to pack.
The main idea is to make sure your bag fits neatly and you’ll be able to find it in your suitcase.
For laptops, the UK government recommends that you have a laptop charger, a laptop bag and two pairs of gloves.
It’s a good idea to keep a spare battery in your laptop bag.
If you have any extra items that you need and they’re not listed, the government suggests that you also bring some extra items for them.
There are also ways to pack smaller items like toothbrushes and tissues in your main bag, but this can be a hassle.
You can pack your laptop charger and laptop in a small pouch and leave the main bag in the car for travel.
For other essentials, such an iPod charger and some batteries, it’s also important to bring them with you when you leave the UK.
There is also a list of items that can be carried on your passport for when your passport expires, or your passport becomes invalid.
And for essentials like a pair the passport can be checked by airport security.
You don’t have to buy a separate passport for each of these items.
You just have to be careful to make your luggage as inconspicuous as possible.
Find the right bag for your needs and budget Some items are essential to pack: your phone charger, spare battery and laptop charger.
A portable charger can be found in most travel agents’ shops.
But sometimes you’ll find a charger on the counter of your local airport, or at an electronics shop, or in a kiosk.
Make sure you buy a charger that fits in the main luggage compartment, which is where you’re going to be travelling for the majority of your trips.
The key to packing well is to ensure that the charger can handle the charge.
But you should also pack a battery pack with at least 20 per cent capacity.
This will ensure that you don’t end up carrying too much power.
And a battery charge can be charged in just three to five minutes.
It takes around five to seven hours to fully charge a lithium battery.
The government recommends keeping a spare pair of underwear, but these may be a bit on the small side.
So you may want to pack one pair in your travelling bag to take with you.
Or you could pack a spare jacket to keep with you for a short trip, or two pairs if you want to wear a jumper or a hoodie instead.
The backpack should also fit into the main compartment and should not be too big.
This is a personal preference.
The best backpack for you: Travel bags with a separate compartment can be expensive, so make sure that you get the best backpack you can afford.
If a backpack is too big for you, try to buy another backpack that is small enough to fit into your main luggage.
If your bag is too small, you can try to use a larger backpack to carry your other essentials.
This might mean bringing a laptop or laptop charger in a separate bag or packing it in the luggage compartment.
The following chart shows how much of your backpack should be carried in your travel bag and the average amount of weight each item should weigh.
The chart also shows the average weight of your items and the weight of each item for each size.
